With the theme ‘Over Borders’, KFA22 explores the geographical, social and art-historical dimensions of the concept of borders. The art circuit brings visitors to various indoor and outdoor locations in Aardenburg and the border village of Middelburg.

De sculpturen van Maen Florin zijn archetypen van een wereld die zij opvat als een enorm toneel waarop de menselijke komedie zich afspeelt. Haar poppen zijn zowel een juxtapositie van materialen als betekenissen. Ze vermengen verwijzingen uit de kindertijd en de volwassenheid om te getuigen van een complexe identiteit die zich verzet tegen formattering, met name die van online game avatars. Deze marginale karakters bestaan uit verschillende lichamen, verschillende persoonlijkheden en verschillende kwalen. Zijn zij gemuteerde wezens in het tijdperk van kunstmatige intelligentie en transhumanisme? Midden in een metamorfose lijken deze aantrekkelijke en afstotelijke poppen zich niet te kunnen aanpassen; een gevoel dat veel tieners overvalt die geconfronteerd worden met modellen en waarden waarin zij zichzelf moeilijk kunnen herkennen.

Les sculptures de Maen Florin sont les archétypes d’un monde qu’elle conçoit comme une immense scène sur laquelle se joue la comédie humaine. Ses poupées sont à la fois une juxtaposition de matériaux et de sens. Elles mixent des références de l’enfance et de l’âge adulte pour témoigner d’une identité complexe qui résiste au formatage, notamment celui des avatars de jeux en ligne. Ces personnages marginaux sont constitués par l’assemblage de différents corps, de différentes personnalités et de différents maux. S’agit-il d’êtres mutants à l’ère de l’intelligence artificielle et du transhumanisme ? En pleine métamorphose, ces poupées à la fois attractives et repoussantes paraissent être dans une incapacité d’adaptation; sentiment qui traverse nombre d’adolescents confrontés à des modèles et à des valeurs dans lesquels ils peinent à se reconnaître.

From July 15 till October 17, Francis Maere invites us to explore the beautiful Leie region. In Bachte-Maria-Leerne, at two different locations, Ooidonk Castle and Hoeve ‘Goed te Reables’, work is shown by more than 30 contemporary Belgian artists, including Maen Florin.

21 Belgian and international artists will create a sculptural work for Beaufort 21. These art works will be shown during 6 months on primal public locations in Belgian coastal towns.
